OCOP TRAINING COURSE - SESSION 7: METHODS AND TOOLS FOR BUILDING A MODEL OF DESTINATION FOR SUSTAINABLE TOURISM

, 20/10/2021 19:10

From September 28th, 2021, Center for Rural Development - Saemaul Undong, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-HCM in collaboration with Central New Rural Coordination Office and Association of Francophone Universities (AUF) implemented the training course of One Commune One Product (OCOP) program in 2021.

The training course included 11 general and intensive sessions. One of the notable topics was session 7: Methods and tools for building a model of destination for sustainable tourism presented by Mrs. Nguyen Thi Diem Kieu, Director of Go Co Village Community Tourism Cooperative. She introduced and shared their methods and tools that contributed to the success of Go Co - the sustainable community tourism cooperative model. The training course also had the participation of Dr. Tran Dinh Lam, Director of CVSEAS.

This session focused on discussing the core factors forming a sustainable community-based tourism destination. She emphasized the need of choosing the appropriate form of organization, in which, cooperatives were commonly utilized as a tool for operating the sustainable community-based tourism model. The session also introduced the ABCD (Asset-based and Citizen-led Development) method in community education and coordination of activities in community tourism destinations. This method was highly appreciated based on its effectiveness in the case of Go Co Village Heritage Park. Besides, she believed that the OCOP program played an important role in shaping and effectively developing the model of community tourism destination.

Through the session and the success of the Go Co Tourism Cooperative model, she hoped that localities with tourism resources should register for OCOP Group VI products. In addition, localities should pay attention to the approaches to conservation and effectively apply community education methods throughout the process of formation and development together with implementing Cooperative as the core form of organization. Moreover, individuals and organizations need to promote the role and connect 4 houses at the same time in all activities of the community tourist destination. With those factors, each locality would comprehensively assess internal and external resources to form and develop sustainable community-based tourism cooperatives.
