PARTICIPATION IN CONFERENCE ON NETWORKED REGIONALISM VERSUS INSTITUIONAL REGIONALISM: MANAGING COMPLEXITIES IN REGIONAL COOPERATION AND GLOBAL GOVERNANCE

From December 6 to December 8, 2009, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam - Director of the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies attended Conference on economic cooperation and environment in Singapore organized by EU Center in Singapore and Asia-Europe Foundation with the partners of Mercury and East Asia Net, participated in by ambassadors, scholars and experts from many countries in the world.

 

The scientists compared the similarities of developing structures between EU and the countries in Asia: the economic integration, labor migration and environment protection. They also discussed the trends, prospects and challenges.

The Conference proposed the orientations in economic cooperation and trade between EU and Asia. Environment was one of the keys in the Conference. Protecting the environment is in need of appropriate policies from not only one country but also the region and the whole world. Training and recruiting labor forces from developing countries for developed ones were discussed and orientated for the future.

Through the Conference, sharing the development models between EU and Asia helps promote their trade negotiation and economic cooperation in the future.
