SEMINAR WITH SINTERMEERTEN STUDENTS IN HOLLAND

At Prof. Dick Gebuy’s invitation, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam paid a visit to Sinternmeerten School and had a talk on economic reform and poverty alleviation for ethnic minorities in Vietnam on February 01, 2018.

Attendees at the seminar included Prof. Paul Thonissen (the School’s Principal), Prof. Erwin Reinders and Prof. Dick Gebuy.

The participants had discussions about several issues related to economic reform in Vietnam, the transformation from a poor country to an average income one and towards industrialization, and what needs to be done in order to preserve ethnic minorities’ cultural identity and bring them true happiness. The issue of training human resources suitable to the integration process as well as promoting each ethnic group’s typical cultural features also attracted the students’ concern and discussion.

At the seminar, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam delivered catalogues of the REACT Project to the Sintermeerten School students to help them get a better understanding of the adaptability to ecology and the use of clean energy like windmills – an advantage in the Netherlands. Living in harmony with nature is a special characteristic in this country, reflected through the process of operating dyke systems for socio-economic development. The country has a population of 17 million with the per capita income up to US$56,000.

In order to promote exchange and cooperation between the two institutions, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam presented 2 books entitled “The Economic, Cultural and Social Life of Bahnar People Sustainable Development” and “Small and Medium-sized Enterprises: The Way to Success” to the school’s library.
