TOURIST – SECOND INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON SUSTAINABLE TOURISM DEVELOPMENT

On July 20th and 21st, 2020, Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities – a member of TOURIST project, attended an international webinar on Sustainable tourism development in ASEAN. The second international seminar taking place in Bangkok (Thailand) is one of activities of project TOURIST* funded by European Union through Erasmus+ Foundation.

The second international seminar was hosted by Kasetsart University in Bangkok (Thailand), using online applications as a way of communication amongst university partners and international guests. Participants of Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities included Professor Chung Hoang Chuong- International Research Center, Dr. Nguyen Van Hoang and Mr. Duong Thi Huu Hien (M.A.) – Lecturers of Tourism Faculty, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam - Director of CVSEAS and other project assistants of USSH.

The meeting started with an opening speech of the Principal of Kasetsart University (Thailand). After that, Ms Claudia Linditsch – main coordinator (FH Joanneum University, Austria), introduced TOURIST project. Then, the online seminar continued with 9 short sessions in 2 days, more than 30 summaries and research work were presented.

The main idea of the research concentrated on the topic of sustainable tourism development in terms of planning tourism and hospitality industry in ASEAN area. Basing on the current situation of practicing sustainable tourism across ASEAN countries, researchers provided lots of solutions and recommendations in order to tackle hardships arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, impacts of climate change and the environment in the time that lies ahead.

(*) The full title of TOURIST project is “Competence centres for the development of sustainable tourism and innovative financial management strategies to increase the positive impact of local tourism in Thailand and Vietnam”. The project runs for a period of 3 years from 2017 to 2020 and is funded by Erasmus+ Foundation of European Union, under management of FH Joanneum University (Austria). Vietnamese university partners include Hanoi National University- University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Hue University and Ho Chi Minh City National University- University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
