TOURIST – SEMINAR WITH PROFESSOR CHUNG HOANG CHUONG

As part of project TOURIST’s training course, on July 9th, Professor Chung Hoang Chuong - former lecturer at Department of Asian American Studies, City College of San Francisco- gives an insightful speech on the topic of “Sustainable Tourism in South Central Coast of Vietnam.”

In order to expand student collaborators’ knowledge on sustainable tourism, CVSEAS invited Professor Chung Hoang Chuong, an experienced researcher at HCMUSSH’s Center for International Studies, to give an in-depth presentation on the sustainable and harmonious aspects of tourism.

In his presentation, the professor on explaining his research titled “In harmony with heaven and earth.” His sharing includes insights on ecotourism and tour-organizing approaches that would bring harmony to the natural environment and local’s lifestyle in this age of industrialization and modernization.

Professor Chuong also mentions the state of tourism in the Mekong Delta region and challenges posed by recent changes and gives example of how locals at An Binh islet provide travel-related services. He also comments on the potential of beach tourism in Vietnam and strategies for further developments; a notably example is Phan Thiet City and how its tourism can be built around sustainability.

The student collaborators show their interest in the topic by raising questions regarding tourism developments and their effects on the daily life of locals, and State’s policies when it comes to encouraging sustainable tourism.

CVSEAS’s Director - Doctor Tran Dinh Lam wraps up the seminar by expressing his appreciation for Professor Chuong’s time and stressing the importance of human resource developments in sustainable tourism. The doctor also states that he hopes the student collaborators can put what they learn in the seminar into practice.
