, 19/03/2018 18:03On February 27, 2018, a workshop on Sustainable Tourism Development was held at the FH Joanneum University, Graz (Austria). It is part of the project “Competence centers for the development of sustainable tourism and innovative financial management strategies to increase the positive impact of local tourism in Thailand and Vietnam” funded by the European Union (EU).

Dr. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan delivered her presentation at the workshop.
The training program is part of the project, which was planned to be implemented in the period of 3 years from the end of 2017 to 2020. The workshop this time lasted 5 days, from the end of February to early March 2018, and it was the first training program of the project. The professors and lecturers had academic exchanges and shared their institution’s experience. Each school participant made an introduction of their school and a brief presentation on the current situation and the potential for tourism growth in their country. Also, the workshop witnessed the participation of some experts in tourism from Austria. They are those who have successfully built up sustainable tourist sites in Austria.
Besides discussions at the FH Joanneum University, the participants had a field trip to 2 impressive models of sustainable tourism. They had a chance to try different local specialties, among which were 2 typical products familiar to tourists. One of them is made of pork manufactured by Vulcano Ham Factory, while the other is made of chocolate by Zotter.
The training program opened a different perspective of tourism development which aims at taking the best care of tourists and bringing them utmost enjoyment, yet typical cultural characteristics and values of the localities are still preserved and maintained. The 5-day training program aroused the Vietnamese participants’ concern about how to boost sustainable tourism in Vietnam as other countries are doing, given the fact that Vietnam has a lot of potential for sustainable tourism development in the era of integration and globalization.
