CELEBRATING THE DOUBLE TENTH DAY OF TAIWAN
, 19/10/2020 18:10On October 10th, 2020, a celebration was held to commemorate the 109th National Day of the Republic of China (Taiwan) with the participation of the Consul Generals, the members of the Consulates General and the Trade Associations in Ho Chi Minh City. The representatives of VNU-HCM were Assoc. Prof, Dr. Vu Hai Quan - Vice Chancellor of VNU-HCM, Dr. Le Thanh Long - Director of Department of External Relations, Dr. Phan Thanh Dinh - Vice Chancellor of USSH, Dr. Tran Cao Boi Ngoc - Vice Head of the Department of International Cooperation and Dr. Tran Dinh Lam - Director of the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies.

In the speech, Mr. Chung Wen Cheng - Director General of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City shared the experience behind the success stories of Taiwan’s Model, which was applied to prevent the COVID-19 pandemic, recognized by the international community.
Besides, he dignified the close exchange relationship between Taiwan and Vietnam, especially in standing together in a spirit to combat the global pandemic. Notably, Taiwan donated 300,000 masks to Vietnam with 250,000 masks given to the Central Lung Hospital in Hanoi, and 50,000 masks sent to the Thong Nhat Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City.
According to new development plans, stated by Mr. Chung Wen Cheng, in the first 6 months of 2020, Taiwan’s investment targeted to the New Southbound Policy countries totaled US$ 1.5 billion in 88 projects. Alternately in the same period, the targeted Southern countries’ investments in Taiwan numbered 277 projects, totaling US$ 189 million. In terms of medical cooperation, Taiwan provided training for 35 medical personnel in 8 countries. Taiwan’s government also focused on developing a strong education - training system
Mrs. Tina Ou - Education Attache of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City emphasized that human resource training in Vietnam plays a key role in the modernization and industrialization process. She hoped to have more cooperative opportunities in education and training to support Vietnam in the process of enhancing the quality of human resources in the future.
Taiwan-Vietnam economy and trade relations had a new phase of development when the bilateral investment agreement (BIA) came into effect on May 24th, 2020 in a bid to provide better protection for Taiwanese investors in Vietnam. Obviously, economy - trade relations are the backbones of the relationship between the two countries. Regardless of the serious impacts of the pandemic, Taiwan’s capital investment remained the fourth largest investor as of present in Vietnam.
Also in the celebration, Mr. Tseng Hsiao Feng - Lawrence - Head of the Economics Department Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City was impressed by the economic achievements that Vietnam gained in the COVID 19 outbreak period. He believed that, with the external support and cooperation from Taiwan, Vietnamese internal economy will make remarkable progress in the upcoming years.
