FINDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR VI THANH PINEAPPLE FARMERS
, 29/03/2024 09:03After conducting research on the impact of climate change on farmers' livelihoods and agricultural land use in Hau Giang province, with the goal of facilitating connections between pineapple growing cooperatives and buyers, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam, Director of the International Cooperation Program – Center for Vietnam and Southeast Asia Studies, and Mr. Daisuke Kurokawa, Export Department, visited Hoa Tien commune and Tan Tien commune in Vi Thanh district on March 13, 2024.
During their visit to the pineapple growing areas in Thanh Thang commune and Thanh Quoi commune, and after listening to the cooperative manager's report on the actual situation of pineapple production in the area, Mr. Kurokawa expressed high appreciation for the Cau Duc pineapple brand. He also expressed a desire to learn more and explore opportunities for cooperation with local farmers to market their pineapples.

With the aim of integrating technical coordination between Vietnamese and Japanese people in agricultural production and business activities, and purchasing quality agricultural products for export to Japan, Mr. Kurokawa was delighted to experience the unique taste of Cau Duc pineapples. He purchased pineapple samples to send to his company and discussed the production process in order to provide suggestions that would help farmers meet the food safety requirements necessary for exporting to Japan.

Establishing a reputable and stable long-term market requires genuine cooperation between farmers and consumers. Building trust between both parties is essential for achieving long-term production efficiency.
The Board of Directors discussed the direction of environmentally friendly production, which involves the use of microbial organic fertilizers in adherence to the guidance documents provided by Mr. Sawamura - Japan Farmers' Association. The cooperative, which cultivates local pineapples, received enthusiastic support for this production direction. The farmers expressed their support, as it ensures the production of high-quality pineapples that are suitable for demanding markets like Japan.

In response to the request of the leaders of Hau Giang province, Prof. Vo Tong Xuan conducted research on the circular economy, with the aim of promoting sustainable development and eliminating negative environmental impacts. He appreciated this initiative and expressed a desire for a sustainable direction of cooperation for Vi Thanh farmers. Promoting a new environmentally friendly production direction will bring many advantages, such as safe production, avoidance of toxicity, and preservation of public health.
