MR. KUNIO TAKAHASHI FROM INSTITUTE FOR INTERNATIONAL STRATEGY (JAPAN) VISITS CVSEAS
, 13/06/2017 09:06On June 08, 2017, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam welcomed Mr. Kunio Takahashi ((Vice Chairman – Institute for International Strategy) and Mr. Yusuke Sato (Researcher - Institute for International Strategy) to the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies (CVSEAS).
During the meeting, the two sides had discussions about several issues that are being studied by the Institute for International Strategy. Mr. Kunio expressed his concern for the Vietnam – Japan relations, especially for the latest visit to Japan by Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc from 4 to 8 June, emphasizing that the two countries’ relationship is experiencing its greatest time.
He also talked about the economic index which generally indicates that Japan has made better progress under the economic policies called Abenomics (policies aimed at reviving the economy advocated by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe) compared to previous years. Yet the country has been still recovering from disastrous effects of the 2011 tsunami and is spending its national budget for preparations of the 2020 Olympics. For that reason, seeking for ways to develop the economy sustainably in the upcoming years is a topic of concern.
At the end of the discussion, Mr. Kunio did not forget to put emphasis on the importance of the two countries’ cooperation in realizing the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) without the United States’ involvement. In addition, he highly valued Vietnam’s economic growth with a notice of the growth’s quality. It is hoped that the two countries will maintain their good relationship in general and strengthen the investment sector in particular. The fact that Japan is Vietnam’s largest ODA provider as well as attracting a high number of Vietnamese students is expected to create many advantages in knowledge and technology transfer, which will contribute to Vietnam’s economic growth.
