The Smart Science Lab Class project lasts from late March to middle of June, aiming to bring equal educational opportunities with technological advances such as tablets, VR headsets, LMS.
The seminar started with a presentation on the evaluation of the project, including four parts: overview, project implementation, assessment, and way forward. The objective of the Smart Science Lab Class project is to bridge the digital gap in education and bring equal learning opportunities to students. The project is sponsored by the Korean government and Samsung Electronics. The project implementation lasts for three months and takes place at Linh Chieu Primary School.
The pilot program which lasts for 8 weeks includes three classes: English class, Korean Class and Science Class using VR headsets. A classroom called “Smart Science Class” is built for students to attend all classes of the pilot program. The Smart Science Class is equipped with advanced devices such as tablets, smart TV, smart touchscreen, VR headsets. In English and Korean class, students join the class by logging in a LMS website with their student accounts. Then, under teachers’ instructions, they participate in interactive activities on tablets. In Science class using VR headsets, students have a chance to watch 360 VR videos visualizing the topic they are studying and allow them to experience immersive and realistic content.

The project receives positive feedback from teachers and students at Linh Chieu Primary School. Results from a questionnaire indicate that most students show interest in the trial program at the Smart Science Class. They agree that the smart devices improve their knowledge acquisition and engagement in the lessons. Studying at the Smart Science Class also benefits students in many ways, such as increasing learning productivity, fostering excitement, reducing the gap between theory and reality as well as developing digital skills for students from a young age.
A wealth of feedback and recommendations from distinguished guests and teachers were also presented at the seminar regarding the project implementation and extension in the future. Representatives from Linh Chieu School shared some good points of the project. Studying with smart devices and systems boosts their learning motivation and also helps them understand some abstract notions that are difficult to experience in real life through VR headsets. Furthermore, students have a chance to study Korean, which enhances their linguistic development. However, some problems need to be tackled to improve the project. In terms of device and system, the Internet connection should be upgraded to ensure a smooth experience with the VR headset. In terms of video content, it is necessary to create more 360 VR videos which are in line with topics in the national Science textbook.

Mr Nguyen Thai Vinh Nguyen, head of DoET of Thu Duc City highly appreciated the effort of Xinchao Science Edu. The project not only introduces new teaching methods in scientific subjects, English and Korean but those approaches could also be used in other subjects. To improve the quality in the future, curriculum should be studied in depth, especially in social sciences such as History, Geography since there are many topics to select. Financial factor is also a crucial problem needed to be further discussed with schools’ principals. In terms of orientation, DoET of Thu Duc is willing to support the project in terms of academic consulting, operation and proposal development to DoET of HCMC regarding the Korean language program in primary school.
