Since the two countries upgraded their relations to the comprehensive strategic partnership in 2016, Vietnam has always affirmed its consistent policy of attaching importance to, strengthening, and promoting relations with India. In 2021, despite the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, India was still one of the top 10 trading partners of Vietnam, with two-way trade turnover hitting nearly 11 billion USD - an increase of nearly 40 percent year-on-year. Mr. Mai expressed his appreciation for the valuable support from India such as the provision of COVID-19 treatment medicine and medical oxygen for Vietnam and the transfer of vaccine production technology. In particular, when the outbreak started to expand in Ho Chi Minh City, the Indian Community donated medical equipment to frontline hospitals and provided vehicles carrying necessities to many places. The relationship between Vietnam and India was a testament to the trust, friendship, and strong commitment of both countries’ leaders and people, Mr. Mai said, expressing his belief that this foundation-based bilateral cooperation would make the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and India, and the cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and India in particular more developed.

He emphasized that India enjoyed excellent friendly and cordial relations with Vietnam. This relationship in the last 50 years had become stronger with the passage of time.
