INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE: LAW AND ECONOMICS ON ILLICIT TRADES
, 08/11/2021 07:11On October 30th, 2021, International Conference: Law and Economics on Illicit Trades was organized online by the Institute for Advanced Social Sciences, Waseda University, Japan. The conference had the participation of scholars and researchers from Japan, China, Malaysia, the US, Italy, and Vietnam. Dr. Tran Dinh Lam - Director of CVSEAS attended the meeting as a chairman of the panel discussion.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prof. Koji Domon - Waseda University, Japan expressed his gratitude to the participants of the conference. He believed the conference would be the opportunity for them to share their experience through the research process, aiming to apply those products into practice. Sharing the same thoughts with Prof. Koji, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam hoped that there would be many other similar programs in order to foster the good relationship in education between the two countries, and between the HCMC USSH and the Waseda University as well.
The conference included two panel discussions focusing on Law and Economics. Dr. Tran Dinh Lam and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Denis Kong - Multimedia University, Malaysia took charge as the chairman of each session. In the first session, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam presented his research on “Building global brand awareness for Vietnamese agricultural products and economic development”. In his presentation, Dr. Lam emphasized the need of promoting brand names of agricultural products for the growth of the economy. Dr. Michael Yuan - Science and Education Institute International, Boston highly appreciated Dr. Lam’s research and gave his incisive comments. Also in this session, Prof. Koji Domon gave a speech on the optimal enforcement for content industries under positive external effects of piracy. He said that Japan attached great importance to copyright in all fields. Therefore, raising awareness of each individual and organization about copyright was always a vital factor. The conference, besides two pieces of research of Dr. Lam and Prof. Koji, had the presentations of Giovanni Battista Ramello - University of Piemonte Orientale, Italy, Dr. Ken Yahagi - Tokyo University, Japan, and Dr. Zhengyi Zhang - Waseda University, Japan.
The authors at the conference hoped that their academic papers would provide the necessary experience and help economists and policymakers, especially in developing countries, deploy appropriate and beneficial policies, contributing to the growth of the economy in their country.
