VISITING INDIAN COUNCIL OF WORLD AFFAIRS
, 20/01/2011 16:01In the morning of December 21, 2010, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam - Director of the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies visited Indian Council of World Affairs, in the heart of New Delhi, India. Sir Vijay Sakhuja, Director for research, received the delegation.
Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) was founded in 1943 by a group of Indian intellectuals under the leadership of Sir Tej Bahadur Sapru. It is a non-official, non-political and non-profit organization under the Registration of Societies Act 1860, and devoted exclusively for the study of international relations and foreign affairs.
The Council has held workshops where the speakers are celebrities such as Alexey Kosygin, Henry Kissinger, Margaret Thatcher, etc. and has signed 31 memoranda of understanding with think-tanks around the world.
During the visit, the Center discussed with the Council on intellectual property rights and activities in this field. India has passed laws to protect intellectual property rights, especially for artists. Specifically, in 2009, India started a campaign with a total cost of up to 220 million dollars to raise awareness about intellectual property rights of the people of India.
At the meeting, former ambassador Vinod C. Khanna highlighted the necessity of cooperation between Indian Council of World Affairs and Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies. According to think-tanks, he stressed Southeast Asian elements in cooperation and development in the world today.
