, 01/12/2010 10:12From September 12 until September 16, Centre for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies organized a program of visiting and understanding Vietnam for a group of students from Waseda University, Japan.
14 students of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Waseda University, had the opportunity to learn about Vietnam through a variety of useful activities. The delegation attended the discussions with the students of Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities on the issue: Economic development and income gaps. In addition, to better understand life in Vietnam students also visited some places in the City such as Cho Lon, Phu My Hung urban area. For two days, September 14 and 15, the students visited a primary school in Can Tho, and awarded 20 scholarships to the students with difficult circumstances. The Japanese students were very excited to visit the school. Japan is a developed country with full life. So, when they witnessed a small elementary school whose pupils were living in extremely difficult conditions, the Japanese students felt stronger and more motivated in life.
The program has brought many useful things for the students in Vietnam, especially the opportunity to practice Japanese. At the same time it helps Waseda University students to better understand life in Vietnam.
In the future Centre for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies hopes to organize more such programs useful for foreign students.
