WORKSHOP: THE IMPACTS OF THE SPORTS EVENTS

, 02/12/2010 14:12

On November 12th, 2010, Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies held a seminar: "The impacts of the major sports events” presented by Prof. Chris Auld-Griffith Business School (Australia). Attending the Seminar were Faculty of Oriental Studies, Faculty of International Relationship, Occupational Training class of Kent Institute and Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies.

According to Professor Christopher Auld - Dean of International Faculty, Griffith University (Australia), many businessmen are always interested in sports events. Surely it carries certain benefits.

Any country in the world wants to take victory in the race to host major sports events because of the huge benefits for the country. To win the right to host the sports events, they must spend millions of dollars.

Are such investments profitable for the country as many people often think? That depends on the careful consideration of the Government and all major business investors. Risks of this investment may occur, but creating jobs for local people, the use of facilities after the event, the advertising for strengthening commercial companies in the country, and especially, bridging foreign companies in joint ventures will bring benefits to the country in the future.

In addition, sports events always bring out the great spiritual values for the host country. Most people easily have consensus, synergy and responsibility for the events of the country, and the national solidarity is raised. Audience will come to watch and support the athletic teams competing in the world, not necessarily attend the home team, which can help them reduce stress in the days of working and living in modern life. It is another opportunity for everyone shoulder by shoulder all to have fun at the competitions.

Thus, profits or risks in hosting sports events are things that should be considered and calculated; however, the sportsmanship for people will take infinite values.
