ASIAN STUDIES PROGRAM, VIETNAM 2009
, 03/10/2009 17:10The Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies (CVSEAS) in collaboration with The University of Innsbruck (UIBK) (Austria) hosted a program named Asian Studies Program, Vietnam 2009 which lasted from September 11 to September 22, 2009.
For the purpose of learning Vietnamese history, culture and socioeconomics, the program attracted 20 undergraduate and postgraduate students of 3 Austrian universities (University of Innsbruck, University of Linz and University of Graz) participating with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Christian Traweger and Dr. Franz Eder, leaders of the group. The program comprised 2 periods. From August 31 to September 11 2009, the group studied and worked with Hanoi University of Technology, from September 11 to September 22 2009, they came to Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) and worked with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH).
During the study program at HCMC, the group visited historic and cultural spots such as Cu Chi Tunnel, Reunification Palace, War Remnant Museum, Notre Dame Cathedral and City Post Office. The visit provided the students with a general view of historical watersheds and cultural traits of this dynamic city. The six lectures at USSH and the visit to Thuan Phuong Embroidery Ltd., Co. at HCMC supplied them with a general knowledge which is diversified in fields of Vietnamese history, geography, culture and socioeconomics. The students also learned about challenges, advantages, disadvantages as well as potentials in socioeconomic development of Vietnam in the modern ages.
The study program has made a contribution to the enhancement of cooperation between the UIBK and CVSEAS, USSH during the last years, and developed the cooperation between Austria and Vietnam in the fields of education, training, research and scientific exchange.
