Exchange with the students from Waseda University, Japan.
, 27/04/2011 15:04On February 14, 2011, Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies attended the exchange with the students of Waseda University, Japan, held by Department of International Cooperation – University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Attending the exchange were the students from Waseda University led by professor Suboi and numerous students in Department of Japanese studies, HCM USSH.
At the meeting, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam, director of the Center delivered a lecture on \"Economic reforms in Vietnam\", from the characteristics of the Vietnamese economy of the planning period to the role and achievements of the renovation policy and reviewing the milestones in the development of the Vietnamese economy, such as joining the United Nations, normalizing the relations with the U.S., joining the WTO, etc. while emphasizing that economic development must be parallel with the benefit of the community, to pay attention to social justice and environmental protection, to avoid the interest focused on a small group of people in society, because it will lead to violence and political instability, leading to the decreasing belief of the people to leading force like the case of Egypt and Tunisia in recent times.
Dr. Tran Dinh Lam also set out three key issues that Vietnam needs to resolve to the sustainable economic development in the future: education reform, perfecting infrastructure and removing the bureaucracy in the state agencies. Therefore, he highlighted the role of politics for economic growth: politically correct thinking will bring about the right policies to help developing the economy.
After the lecture, Waseda students put many questions for TS. Tran Dinh Lam on land use right in the Land Law of Vietnam, in a comparison with other socialist countries such as China and other solutions that Vietnam has been set.
At the end of the seminar, the Japanese and Vietnamese students lively debated about the jobs and career orientation, raising their aspirations after graduation, in order to bring prosperity to each individual, as well as devote to human development in his country.
