CONFERENCE ON INVESTMENT PROMOTION IN LAOS

On the morning of August 31st, 2009, Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies participated in the conference on investment promotion in Laos. Attending the conference were Mr Xổm-xạ-vạt Lênh-xạ-vắt, Standing Vice-Prime Minister of Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Mr Lê Hoàng Quân, Chairman of People’s committee of HoChiMinh city and many representatives of agencies and enterprises, including: Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam, Golf Long Thành company, Hoàng Anh Gia Lai stock company, Đăk Lăk Rubber company, Hong Quang Construction and Real Estate company, etc.

The conference introduced the environment, opportunities of investment and business in Laos as well as the Vietnamese policy to foreign countries, especially, Laos. The conference emphasized the attraction of investment to develop two regions along the border between the two countries. These are places where peoples suffered from sacrifice and loss during the war. The investment will make some contribution to developing these regions in order to compensate partly the loss of the local peoples.

At the conference occurred the signing ceremony of contracts and memos in cooperation between Laotian and Vietnamese enterprises.
