, 31/12/2008 15:12Dr. Tran Dinh Lam - Direcotr of the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies has attended the Rome's international conference "Global governance: growth and innovation 2020" taking place from August 18 to 26 attracts as many as 110 scholars from all over the world. During the conference, the professors have presented topics towards the global cooperation for young scholars.

Scholars advocate knowledge sharing at Rome conference
Scholars and researchers from across the world agree on the need to promote understanding, sharing of knowledge, and pursue peace for the next generation at an international conference taking place in Rome, Italy.
The conference titled “Global governance: growth and innovation 2020” taking place from August 18 to 26 attracts as many as 110 scholars from all over the world, including Russia, Britain, USA, France, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Serbia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and Vietnam.
The gathering is mainly aimed for postgraduate students and doctoral candidates with the supervision of professors and scholars worldwide.
Prof. Giorgio Dominese, as host of the event, convey a message to the participants: towards a peaceful community in which knowledge and understanding are shared and nurtured, cultural values are exchanged and a wealthy life developed. The objective of the year 2020 is to welcome a young generation with updated wisdom, rejection to conflict, joint research, dialogues and knowledge sharing in the common purpose to bring happiness to mankind.
Prof. Fumiaki Inagaki of Keio University presented the problem of unsolved conflict for water among central Asian countries.
It is imperative to build long-term strategies, equally exploiting natural resources, building a peaceful environment, contributing voices to the development of a community where people live in unanimity, he said. He added ethnocentrism and indifference to others’ dilemmas will be the seeds of discord and instability in societies.
The economic growth is the target of all countries. However, it is necessary to seek ways for avoiding marginalization of unfortunate people, involving the poor in the general development and industrialization, said another participant, Prof. Bozidar Cerovic.
Mohammad A. Al-Fawzan from Saudi Arabia shared with participants the positive change in the mind of Saudi Arabians. The mid-East country is widely known for oil, accounting for 90% of the national budget.
“Now they are all aware that it is only the human resources, not the gigantic oil well bestowed by mother Nature, that really matters,” he said.
He talked about the major plan of the King to establish a fund for building universities of high international standards like Harvard, Stanford, MIT of the USA. It is projected to activate these universities at the beginning of 2009 with many scholarships for international students who will be invited to work for oil corporations in this country upon their graduation.
The presentation “The Economics of Biofuels” by Prof. Paulo Paesani, University of Vergata, Roma has enjoyed the vigorous support from the participants due to its practicality and controversy in a time the escalating price of oil has threatened many economies.
According to this professor’s prediction, the biofuels will make up 20% of the liquid fuels market in 2050.
