, 21/10/2020 15:10

On October 16th, 2020 representatives  from 18 universities across Vietnam joined the “Building a network amongst participants running the project funded by ERAMUS ” seminar hosted by Ho Chi Minh University of Natural Resources and Environment (HCMUNRE) via Google Meet. Dr. Lê Thị Kim Thoa, Vice Dean of Faculty of Marine resources and islands management organized the seminar to introduce on-going projects and share challenges when implementing them in reality.

Associate Professor Doctor Huỳnh Quyền - President of HCMUNRE in the seminar’s opening address, gave an overview of the university’s responsibilities and visions in international projects. He also sent his appreciation to the universities and research institutes which have been supporting HCMUNRE’s research as well as other projects. The principal hoped that all university participants could maintain a strong relationship in the long term.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huỳnh Quyền, President of HCMURNE gives an opening speech.

Next, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hồ Thị Hồng Vân, Head of Department of Science shared her journey from a participant to a main coordinator for Erasmus Foundation’s projects. In her opinion, lecturers of the university encountered several difficulties at first due to the projects’ new natures. However, after gaining experience and studying from predecessor universities, the staff became more confident in organizing activities of the projects.

The seminar continued with the report presentations from project participants including HCM-USSH, University of Economics and Laws (UEL), Hanoi University of Architecture, Hanoi University of Mining and Geology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Sciences, Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry and so on.

University representatives take turns to present their reports.

As a representative of HCMC-USSH, Dr. Lam delivered a presentation on 4 projects REACT, ENHANCE, TOURIST and V2WORK. The Doctor addressed values of those projects to Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia and the network between researchers from EU and Vietnam thanks to teaching and research collaborations. The projects also promoted mutual support and teamwork amongst participant universities in an attempt to build open education and training activities.
Dr. Trần Đình Lâm representing HCM USSH presents the projects.

The project topics covered a host of aspects such as natural resources, environment, sustainable tourism development, collecting and processing sewage and increasing chances of student's job opportunity after graduation. Despite the diversity in project topics and sizes, all projects were of great value to provide involved universities with knowledge, experience, network and necessary equipment. Nonetheless, as to remarks and feedback from lecturers in the seminar, the participants had to overcome a great deal of administrative procedures to get the benefits mentioned above. As a result, this made the project behind schedule and demotivated the project operating teams.

Assoc. Prof. Dr Nguyễn Thị Kim Thoa, host of the seminar, moderates the discussion.

In addition, the lecturers posed some of the difficulties and discussed solutions they faced when working in their projects. Therefore, they decided to establish a network to connect universities together in order to learn, assist and cooperate in the future. The academic staff all agreed to create an “online photo album” to promote the on-going projects.
