JAPANESE CONSULATE GENERAL IN HO CHI MINH CITY PRESENTED AWARDS FOR THE COMPETITION ON TRANSLATING VIETNAMESE SHORT STORIES INTO JAPANESE

, 26/05/2009 00:05

To enhance the cultural exchange between Vietnam and Japan, CVSEASs cooperated with Kanae bookstore (Japan) to hold a competition on translating Vietnamese short stories into Japanese. On May 9, 2009 CVSEAS held the first awarding ceremony of the competition.

This is the competition held by Kanae bookstore (Japan) under the aid of the Literature Professor Matsuda Kiyoshi (University of Tokyo Jo-ho). Prof. Matsuda is very enthusiastic with Vietnam. He always wants to make his contribution to enhancing the cultural exchange between Vietnam and Japan. Apart from holding this competition, Prof. Matsuda also helps build a school in Phan Thiết, and he is also the person who brought Fuji seeds to Vietnam.

Bringing the works of Vietnamese literature to the Japanese is the greatest objective of the competition on translating Vietnamese short stories into Japanese. This is also a good opportunity for those who love literature and are good at Japanese to show their talents. Although the first tournament of the competition had a limited number of papers, all of them express the greatest attempt and the enthusiasm of the participants.

The organizing board decided to gave the consolatory prize to Nguyễn Hồng Phúc (a fourth-year student of Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Hồ Chí Minh city). The submitted work by Nguyễn Hồng Phúc is a short story “Please give me a ticket to childhood” by Nguyễn Nhật Ánh. On May 9, 2009 at the Oriental Festival, Mr. Furudate Seiki (Japanese Consulate in Hồ Chí Minh City) presented Hồng Phúc with this honourable prize.

The second tournament of the competition will begin to receive the works from January 1, 2009 until March 31, 2010. Those who may concern can send the works to CVSEAS via email or letter.
