NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ECONOMIC LANDSCAPE FOR BUSINESSES IN 2017

On April 15, 2017, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam attended a national conference on “Economic Landscape for Businesses in 2017” held by the University of Economics and Law at the Unification Hall. The conference’s attendees included Dr. Nguyen Thanh Phong – Member of the Party Central Committee – Chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee, Assoc.Prof Huynh Thanh Dat – Member of the Party Central Committee – President of the Vietnam National University HCM City, Assoc.Prof. Phan Thanh Binh – Member of the Party Central Committee – Chairman of the National Assembly Committee on Culture, Education, Youth, Adolescents and Children, Assoc.Prof. Vu Minh Khuong – Economic Expert – National University of Singapore, Dr. Vo Tri Thanh – Former Deputy Director of the Central Institute for Economic Management, Mr. Tran Ba Duong – Chairman of the Board of Directors of Truong Hai Auto Corporation (THACO), Mrs. Vu Thi Thuan – Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Traphaco Joint Stock Company, and Mr. Mai Huu Tin – Former Chairman of Vietnam Young Entrepreneurs Association Session IV – Chairman of the Board of Directors cum CEO of U&I Investment Corporation.

The event was regarded as one of the most important conferences hosted by the University of Economics and Law with many economists and businessmen gathering to share their views about economic issues. Assoc.Prof. Huynh Thanh Dat – President of the Vietnam National University HCM City and Dr. Nguyen Thanh Phong – Chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee talked about disadvantages to Vietnam’s economy, particularly in the context of Industry 4.0, as well as unsustainable development causing environmental hazards and challenges of falling into the middle-income trap. So the conference’s participants called for cooperation between Vietnamese businesses and the State in order to push through reforms.

Also at the conference, Vietnam National University HCM City and Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) signed an agreement on cooperation in training human resources of high quality to meet the requirement of the country’s socio-economic advancement.

At the end of the conference, Mr. Tran Ba Duong – Chairman of the Board of Directors of Truong Hai Auto Corporation (THACO) gave practical answers to students’ questions about Vietnam’s economy, expressing his belief in the success of Vietnamese students’ startups in the future.
