SEMINAR WITH STUDENTS FROM HIROSHIMA UNIVERSITY
, 20/03/2017 14:03On March 02, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam had a talk to students from the Hiroshima University (Japan). Also present at the seminar were Prof. Yutaka Hasegawa – Head of the Office of Finance and General Administration, Prof. Tomoko Sasaki – Office of International Exchange, and Prof. Fuyuko Takita Ruetenik.
The meeting focused on discussions about Vietnam’s economy, its transformation process during the reform period, as well as encouraging results Vietnam has achieved.
After 30 years of reform since 1986, the economy in Vietnam has made dramatic changes, helping it escape poverty and prepare for industrialization and modernization. To develop and maintain a sustainable economy, however, the country is still facing various hindrances. At the seminar, the participants shared Japan’s experience in its industrialization, economic development, ecological balance, and human resources training, highlighting the role of universities during their process of reforming and learning from Western models. Japan used to be well-known for putting strong emphasis on Confucianism with a rigid social hierarchy: scholars, famers, artisans, and merchants. Yet, thanks to their inquiring minds, Japanese people have learnt technological advances from Western countries to help its economy develop remarkably. Together with a law-abiding attitude, a fair competitive environment in terms of economics and the role model of the government have all built up trust among the whole nation, which definitely help to speed up its economic growth, making Japan become Asia’s pride. That is a practical lesson for Vietnam’s economic development, open-door policies and promotion of reform to lay a foundation for its industrialization.
Prof. Fuyuko Takita Ruetenik was impressed with Vietnam’s economic achievements, hoping to be able to contribute to human resources training through upcoming seminars.
