THE HINDI DAY
, 06/10/2010 12:10On October 1, 2010, Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies participated in the "Hindi" Day jointly held by the Consulate General of India at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities of Ho Chi Minh city. Attending the Day were Sir Abhay Thakur, Consul General of India, Prof. Dr. Vo Van Sen, President of University of Social Sciences and Humanities, guests from the provinces, teachers and students of the University.
Hindi Day has been held many times since 2007 at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the only place which offers the credit course of India's studies in Vietnam. Annually the University trains approximately 20 students in this field.
The Hindi language is one of 22 official languages in India and is used the most in those languages in 10 Indian states with more than 41% of the population. Currently there are 460 million people using Hindi as their mother tongue, second only to Chinese (845 million). As a second language, Hindi language has 650 million users, second only to English with 1.8 billion users. Hindi plays an important role in the field of culture and economy in the world.
To improve the effectiveness of learning and studying the Hindi language in Vietnam, the Consul General of India proposed financing many projects and research programs for lecturers and students of Indian Studies at University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh city, in particular and Vietnam, in general.
