THE NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF TOKYO WITH REPRESENTATIVE OF MITSUBISHI CORPORATION TALKED ABOUT THE QUALITY OF VIETNAMESE COFFEE AT CVSEAS

, 17/03/2009 19:03

On February 15th, 2009 the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies held a talk on Vietnamese coffee with Prof. Ikemoto Yukio (the National University of Tokyo), Mr. Takahashi (Mitsubishi Group) and Ms. Kim Kihuen (organic agriculture researcher).

The talk dealt with many facts on Vietnamese coffee in the current context. According to Professor Ikemoto, Vietnamese coffee has not been evaluated highly in the international markets because its quality has not been taken care of. Moreover, clean coffee which will have to be developed will produce more economic effect for the laborers. That is a long process which will be carried out step by step.

Mr. Takahashi promised to support Vietnamese farmers to develop clean coffee. Two years ago Mitsubishi registered for the project on developing the model of clean coffee in Vietnam. Besides, Mitsubishi group has aided Vietnamese coffee companies such as Thang Loi, Phuoc An, etc. to get Utz certificates. (Cooperation research on coffee with the National University of Tokyo)

In particular, to realize the project on the model of clean coffee in Vietnam, Ms Kim Kihueng introduced a new direction for development – implementing an organic agriculture to develop high-quality coffee in Vietnam. A green agriculture implemented, farmers do not use pesticide and chemical manure or if they have to use, they apply only a small amount in appropriate time. A green agriculture will bring three benefits: to create more jobs more farmers, to make the soil more fertile and to aid the plants to gain high quality.

The talk indicated good ties between enterprises and education. The stable development of the enterprises is closely connected with the one of education. The themes of practical research on Vietnamese coffee will support the farmers to cooperate with the enterprises to find the exit for consuming their clean coffee.
