WASEDA UNIVERSITY'S RESEARCH ON JAPANESE CULTURE'S INFLUENCE ON VIETNAM
, 06/06/2018 17:06In March, Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies welcomed Prof. Koji Domon, Waseda University, to visit and conduct a research on the influence of Japanese culture on Vietnam’ industry.
Japanese culture is permeating Vietnam and precipitating closer ties between the two countries.
Recognizing that, Prof. Koji Domon studied how much did Vietnamese know about Japanese culture and how much did Japanese culture influence Vietnam’s economic development?
In just a few days, we received over 1300 samples from students from over 20 universities – mainly partners of 4 projects (ENHANCE, REACT, TOURIST and V2WORK), exceeding the expectation of 300 samples.
This research is obviously a great opportunity for students and researchers who are interested in Japan’s culture and people.
Today, the young generation generally becomes more interested in Japanese culture.
Therefore, the markets for Japanese contents, such as comics, manga, novels, animation, music, food, etc. are increasingly popular. People can easily pick up a manga or a novel in the bookstore or watch movies online and observe a lot of interesting information on both Vietnamese websites and Janpanese websites, such as Facebook, Youtube, Sugoi, etc.
Merchandise of Japanese cartoon characters, such as Hello Kitty, Doraemon, Pikachu, Sailormoon, Crayon Shinchan, Dragonball is very popular among children and teenagers.
Another interesting business is one-price shop which offers a wide range of essential products imported from Japan, ranging from stationery, household commodities, cosmetics to vehicle repair tools.
Prof. Koji Domon also did a research on “Unauthorized Copying and Copyright Enforcement in Developing Countries: A Vietnam Case Study”.
