WORKSHOP ON EDUCATION AND RESEARCH COLLABORATION IN INDOCHINA REGION, KYOTO UNIVERSITY, JAPAN
, 21/06/2010 11:06From May 21 to 24 Center for Vietnam and Southeast Asian Studies attended the workshop held by School of Global Enviromental Studies, Kyoto University. The participants of the workshop included: Universities of Champasack, Democratic People's Republic of Laos, University of Khon Khaen, Thailand, the Royal University of Cambodia; Agricultural University of Hue, Da Nang University, Center for Vietnam and Southeast Asian Studies, etc.
The local universities introduced the conditions, characteristics of their locality, and would like to share their contributions of the University during the project implementation.
The graduate students of Kyoto University were more impressive when they presented the research finding a solution for sustainable development, in association with attention to the environmental quality of growth. It is necessary to protect water resources, to produce agricultural products naturally, to take care of forests, and even in business to make consumers understand the value of the products friendly with environment.
The professors of India, USA, UK, etc. showed many ideas discussing the importance of educational cooperation between the universities to educate students to raise environmental awareness.
Prof. Kei Mizuno who hosted the workshop has been several times to Vietnam to cooperate on environmental research. Current collaborative research programs cover the countries: Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam. In future the program will reach the universities in the region. In September 2010 GS Mizuno will take a research group of Japanese students to study the environment in Vietnam.
