AMBASSADOR PHAM QUANG VINH SHARED ABOUT THE 2020 UNITED STATES PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

, 09/11/2020 16:11

On October 16th, 2020, members of the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies took part in the conversation of the former Ambassador Pham Quang Vinh about the topic “The 2020 United States of America Presidential Election” in Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

The conversation was held by the Faculty of International Relations, which attracted a hundred lecturers, researchers, students from many faculties and universities in Ho Chi Minh city. In his talk, the former ambassador analyzed the presidential election from many perspectives and answered some related questions from students. The conversation was attended by Dr. Phan Thanh Dinh – Vice-Chancellor of HCM USSH; Dr. Tran Dinh Lam – Director of the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies, Dr. Bui Hai Dang – Head of Faculty of International Relations, HCM USSH.

According to the former Ambassador, the election is affected by many factors such as an epidemic, unemployment, and racial conflict. He believed that those factors contributed to the race to White House, which is fierce competition and unpredictable result, became much more sophisticated. Both Donald Trump and Joe Biden are in a cutthroat competition to have the Electorate votes. On the one hand, the public opinion poll showed that the candidate of Liberal Democrats has the better hand. On the other hand, if Trump wins in the key battleground states, he will win the election again as exactly as what he did in 2016.

Mr.Vinh stressed that the figure of the poll was just for reference only due to the fact that many factors could drive it to the error term. After the conversation with Mr. Vinh, it can be seen that the presidential election is wide open. Ultimately, the former Ambassador was eager to answer the questions from the audiences. The big number of questions showed the raising up of youth’s interest in international politics, especially in the 2020 United States presidential election.
