DISCUSSION ON ECONOMIC REFORM AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN VIETNAM AT ROYAL UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE, CAMBODIA
, 17/07/2018 17:07On July 13th, 2018, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam, Director of Center of Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies, took part in discussion with other lecturers, researchers and experts at Royal University of Agriculture (RUA) on “Economic reform and Sustainable Development in Vietnam.”
	
Discussion struck many important aspects regarding sustainable development such as sustaining biodiversity for local community, the need for balance in industrialization, minimization of bias that puts farmers in disadvantage, avoidance of retrieving public land with low prices and trusting investors who cause social instability.
Dr. Tran Dinh Lam stressed key role of private businesses as a foundation for the country’s development. Hence, it is crucial to pass legislations and regulations to support private businesses in order to compete with foreign companies.
Professor Kim Boben, Director of Center for Agricultural and Environmental Studies at RUA, also expressed his concern regarding enormous dams belonging to Hydropower Plants on Mekong River causing change in current which may harm marine biodiversity of the area.
Moreover, academics also mentioned many key issues of preserving environment in Southeast Asian countries. It is important for countries to cooperate in developing a sustainably developed society.
The discussion took place after Dr. Tran Dinh Lam attended training for REACT project, funded by Erasmus+.
