EXPLORING MODEL OF VOLUNTOURISM

, 25/11/2020 18:11

On November 17th, 2020 in USSH, the executive committee of TOURIST project and TOURIST’s members had a workshop with Ms. Dinh Thi Minh Xuan - HeartVentures Travel Company about the model of voluntourism in Vietnam. The meeting is within the framework of work package No.4 implementing the Center for Development of Sustainable Tourism.

In the introduction, Ms. Dinh Thi Minh Xuan stated that HeartVentures was focusing on developing two main types of tourism: Inbound tourism combined with community projects for international students and Domestic tourism combined with extracurricular activities and skills training for Vietnamese students. The company has organized many travel itineraries around the country such as Ta Van, Ta Phin (Lao Cai), Dray Sap (Dac Nong); Tien Giang; Ben Tre. Besides tourism activities, the company also focused on implementing and connecting with volunteer activities for the community.

Ms Đinh Thụy Minh Xuân - Heartventure presents the model of voluntourism.

Answering the question related to the advantages and disadvantages in implementing the model in practice, Ms. Xuan said this type of tourism was a niche market with a few competitors. Because of working in the B2B model, the company had no difficulty in contacting partners. However, under the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, the company entirely focused on the domestic tourism market and took partners’ suggestions about virtual tourism into consideration.

At the end of the meeting, Ms. Xuan and TOURIST’s members discussed the solutions to create a sustainable tourism market. In the coming time, HeartVentures will continue to support CVSEAS in TOURIST project’s activities as well as help TOURIST’s members strengthen their knowledge and skills in tour operations management.
