WORKING VISIT WITH HEAD OF QUANG DIEN DISTRICT, THUA THIEN HUE PROVINCE
, 03/12/2020 14:12On November 9th, 2020, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam had a visit with Dr. Tran Dinh Hang – Director of Vietnam National Institute of Culture and Arts Studies in Hue and Mr. Tran Quoc Thang – Chairman of the People’s Committee of Quang Dien District, Thua Thien Hue Province to discuss the potential for tourism development in Tam Giang lagoon. The discussion also welcomed the participation of Mr. Doan Sung – CEO of Doan Anh Duong J.S.C. and Mme. Nguyen Thi Diem Kieu – Director of Go Co cooperative, Quang Ngai Province.
During the discussion, Mr. Doan Sung introduced the community-based tourism model Go Co which is built on the “four-house” or four-actor linkage (government, farmers, scientists, and businesses) and has garnered certain successes. Mr. Sung expressed his hope to see this model implemented in more communities as a means of local cultural identity preservation as well as civilizing the model itself.
Mr. Tran Quoc Thang was appreciative of the practical contributions made by Mr. Sung and the youth people at Go Co tourist village. He did raise some concerns regarding the interests as well as the role and significance of the local people in a community-based tourism model. He opined that creation of a new tourist attraction required careful research and a firm scientific basis lest the interests of the people be misaligned. On future partnership with Doan Anh Duong J.S.C., Mr. Thang was open to learning how to best implement the “four-house” community-based tourism model with a view to improving the economic status of the inhabitants of Quang Dien District, Thua Thien Hue Province.
Concluding the group’s visit to Tam Giang lagoon. Mr. Doan Sung saw potential for tourism in the advantageous footing and wild beauty of the area’s old fishing villages. He noted three key factors for tourism development required of the local people: consensus of opinion, change in ways of thinking, and cultural solidarity. With all three factors met, the community-based tourism model will reach its full potential.
