, 02/02/2010 16:02On January 5, 2010, Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, University of Tokyo and People's Committee of Dac Lac province organized a workshop "Development Status of Development Triangle Vietnam - Laos - Cambodia _ the role of Vietnam and Japan. Attending the workshop were leaders of Dac Lac, Dac Nong, Gia Lai and Kon Tum and scholars from the University of Tokyo, Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, Ho Chi Minh Institute of Politics and Administration - region III, Highlands University and Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies.
With a speech: Looking for a suitable model of development in the 21st century, Professor Motoo Furuta, University of Tokyo opened the workshop, sending a message to all policy makers that the economic development needs international attention to the living environment and well-being of local people. The Japanese government was interested in the development of the region through support of 20 million dollars for building infrastructure bases such as roads, bridges, schools, hospitals and drinking water systems. Professor Furuta created deep impression on the participants because of his ability to speak very fluent Vietnamese.
Everybody was interested when many questions were discussed in the Prof. Ikemoto report "Sustainable coffee: the environment and the lives of people. How to improve quality of coffee to help coffee farmers benefit. In the trend of globalization, said the professor, advanced education and training has meaningful decisions. Because high coffee prices and creating prestige in the market take time and gray matter. Farmers alone can not do this. For the world to know coffee Vietnam more, we should pay attention to the certificate of friendly environment, and furthermore, organize eco-tourism, green tourism to help visitors understand the life of coffee farmers, especially ethnic minorities, thereby, helping them reduce their poverty.
Mentioning another aspect of integration, Prof. Susumu Yamakage, highly appreciated the role of Vietnam from opposition, then, to dialogue and integration with other countries in the region.
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr Truong Minh Duc, for Highlands to be strong and long-term sustainable, we should overcome the lack of health services in the communities of ethnic minorities.
Four provinces Dac Lac, Dac Nong, Gia Lai and Kon Tum should determine their role and potential for the integration into the development Triangle with the neighborhood of the two countries. Together with Laos and Cambodia, Vietnam should promote a development triangle of sustainable development. Through the workshop, scholars assessed the potential of Development Triangle and addressed solutions to promote effective development. According to the scholars, Japan should launch its investment in the Triangle.
