93rd ANNIVERSARY OF THAILAND'S NATIONAL DAY (05/12/1927 - 05/12/2020)
, 11/12/2020 21:12On December 04th, 2020, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Ho Chi Minh City held a ceremony in celebration of the 93rd National Day of the Kingdom of Thailand and the birthday of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej (December 05th, 1927) which also marks Father’s Day.
The ceremony welcomed the presence of esteemed Consul Generals and members of Consul Delegations as well as Ho Chi Minh City representatives such as Mr. Duong Anh Duc – Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and Dr. Tran Dinh Lam – Director of the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies.
In his opening remarks, Consul General of Thailand in Ho Chi Minh City Apirat Sugondhabhirom expressed great appreciation for the fighting spirit of the Vietnamese government in its combat against COVID-19. He went on to highlight the challenges posed by the ongoing pandemic on the socio-economic conditions of both Thailand and Vietnam. With that being said, Thailand remains Vietnam’s ninth biggest foreign investor––a point of pride worth noting as more and more Thai enterprises contribute to the growth of the Vietnamese economy.

On the topic of ASEAN, the Consul General regarded the signing of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP)––one of the biggest free trade agreements in the world––as an important milestone in the development of ASEAN and its partners. On this accomplishment, he extended words of congratulation to Vietnam on its role as the Chairman of ASEAN.
Concluding his remarks, the Consul General of Thailand Apirat Sugondhabhirom expressed his sorrow over the disaster-induced losses suffered by the people of Central Vietnam. Mr. Sugondhabhirom wished Vietnam a speedy recovery from the natural calamity and the pandemic.
In the times to come, Thailand and Vietnam shall remain side by side in the face of any hardship and stand proud in the days leading up to the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Vietnam in 2021.
