Attending Republic Day Celebration of India

On January 27, 2011 Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies attended a reception to celebrate the 62nd Republic Day of India held by the Indian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City.

Sir Abhay Thakur, the Indian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City was delighted to introduce the social and economic achievements that India has achieved. The achievements in recent decades really stand out. India is now the 4th largest economy in the world of purchasing power parity (PPP) with growth at 8.5% in 2010. India is located in the top 10 countries of investment destination in the world with capital of foreign direct investment (FDI) reaching 34.6 billion dollars.

The relationship between India and Vietnam based on good faith from both sides, was built by President Ho Chi Minh and Prime Minister Nehru. With policy "Look East" of India, India's relations with Vietnam and other ASEAN countries in the region have been increasingly tightened.

Economic and commercial relations of the two countries have been increasingly strengthened. Estimated two-way trade has increased more than 25% in 2010 to achieve the highest level of nearly 2.6 billion dollars
