, 08/05/2011 09:05On November 24, 2010, Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies held a workshop on: The senior leadership in enterprises in Japan, United States, Germany and relation to Vietnam, presented by Professor Yoshiaki Takahashi (Chuo University, Japan), with the participation of a large class of students in Business Administration Diploma of Kent Program and many other relevant subjects.
During the workshop, Professor Takahashi presented the structure of senior management in enterprises in Germany - Japan - United States, as well as the role and function of each section, and outlined the way in business enterprises. According to the professor, senior management structure in enterprises sharing a large scale is provided in two popular models: one-level structure and two-level structure. Two-level structure is a model in which there is the prohibition of two parts concurrently the Managing Board and Executive Board (board) of the enterprise, this model is common in German firms, while that one level structure allows concurrent two parts, commonly found in Japanese and U.S. firms.
In comparison, Professor Takahashi drew out the advantages and disadvantages of both models and came to a conclusion: two-level structure applied in the German business is the model that Vietnam should learn. Relating to Vietnam, through the investigation results in 33 equities with Board size, method of company ownership, the percentage of part-time basis between the leaders, etc., the professor stated that the structure of senior management in enterprises Vietnam was still under a one-level structure model, ie, a person with part-Board and Executive Board business, this can lead to negative self-administration, self-assessment, etc. With this mechanism, the operation of the Board of members could hardly strictly be controlled.
The workshop gave the students useful knowledge about the structure of business leaders, thus helping them understand more about the structure of business leaders in Vietnam in relation to the size of businesses in the countries around the world.
