TALK ON: ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND CULTURE

On the afternoon of May 8, 2009, CVSEAS in accordance with Japanese Consulate General in Hồ Chí Minh City held a talk on: Economic Development and Culture. The talk attracted a lot of students and learners of IT Japanese class and provided them with useful lessons.

"Through making beautiful kimonos, I would like to preserve and develop Japanese cultural traditions". Mr. Takahashi - a Japanese master of kimono - shared his ideas on cultures in the global context with the participants.

Culture must always be cherished and developed from generation to generation. It is subject to the degree of the order and changes from time to time. Culture must constantly be revived. When it stops developing, it is not called culture but cultural heritage. The development in economy is of great importance; however, preserving and inheriting traditional culture that the predecessors created is very necessary. At first, one must understand the culture in his own country. If he does, wherever in the world he travels, he can understand the cultures of other countries, know how to sympathize, share and compare the differences among the cultures.

Mr. Takahashi would like that the Vietnamese young can equip themselves with good knowledge on the culture and history of their country in different ways of learning. His thoughts were sympathized with by most of the students.

Attending the talk were also H.E. (His Excellency) Mr.  Mizuki Ikuo - General Consul of Japan in Hồ Chí Minh City, Mr. Masaaki Gokura from Japan Consulate in Hồ Chí Minh City, Ms. Nguyễn Vân Quỳnh Như - Cultural Section of Japanese Consulate General, Mr. Kurimoto, Ms. Watanobe Eriko, Mr. Saito, students of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, learners of IT Japanese class, educational cadres of the Faculty of Press and Media.

After the talk, CVSEAS met and discussed with Mr. Mizuki Ikuo - Japanese General Consul in Hồ Chí Minh City.

Mr. Mizuki shared his thoughts on culture. For him, culture should be understood in a large sense, changeable from time to time. Culture not only is bound in traditional objects like kimono, but also is modern values like IT... Passing each country, he has tried to learn its history and traditional culture and integrate into the local people. The lady of General Consul  also expressed her admiration to the smartness of the Vietnamese in acquiring culture and technology. This will open a bright future for Vietnam.

Ass.Prof.Dr. Võ Văn Sen (Rector of USSH, HCMC) thanked the General Consul for his attention and support for the activities of the University. Dr. Nguyễn Trí Dũng, having lived in Japan for over 40 years and made a lot of contribution to education, cultural exchange... evaluated the talk highly. For him, such talks will help the two countries be closer in culture, which is the basis for the development. Dr. Nguyễn Trí Dũng also expressed his attention to the conference "Medium and small-sized enterprises" to be held by CVSEAS next June.
