From 25 to 27 May, 2017, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam attended a workshop at the School of Southeast Asia, Busan University of Foreign Studies (BUFS), with the theme Teaching Southeast Asian Studies: New foundation and approaches, which focuses on papers on human resources training, ecological conservation, as well as maintenance of peace, sustainable development and mutual prosperity for the Southeast Asian nations. The workshop is aimed at connecting South Korea and the ASEAN community in establishing a foundation for utilizing human resources after their training.

On 16, 17 and 18 May, 2017, partners of the ENHANCE Project attended workshops organized at the An Giang University, Long Xuyen City, An Giang Province. Among the attendees were representatives of the HCM City University of Social Sciences and Humanities USSH), namely Dr. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan, USSH’s Deputy President and Dr. Tran Dinh Lam, Director of the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies.

On May 23, 2017, the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies (CVSEAS), HCMC University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH), held a workshop on “The importance of social networking sites to the development of businesses, especially Vietnamese enterprises” presented by Jay Hartwell – Lecturer, Faculty adviser to student media programs at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa, USA. In his accompany was Dr. Duong Ngoc Duong – lecturer at HCMC USSH.

On May 12, 2017, the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies collaborated with the Faculty of Sociology and the Inner Space Center to host a talk “Living in balance” presented by Aruna Ladva. Attendees at the event included Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Thi Hong Xoan – Dean of the Faculty of Sociology alongside lecturers and students from this faculty and other departments.

On April 28, 2017, the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies had the honor of inviting Ms. Isadora J. Wagner, a doctoral student majoring in American Literature at the University of Mississippi, to give a seminar on “Representations of Long-Haired Warriors in U.S. Vietnam War Literature”.

Also in the series of training programs for the Teijin Corporation jointly run by the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies and the Alue Co., Ltd., on April 24, 2017, alongside a visit to the An Phuoc Garment Embroidery Shoes Co., Ltd., Mr. Tom Okumura, representative of the Alue Company, and staff members of the Teijin Corporation paid a visit to the Thuan Phuong Embroideries Garments Co., Ltd. The group was honorably welcomed by Mr. Dang Phu Hai, Thuan Phuong Co.’s Chief Business Development Officer.

On May 12, 2017, representatives of the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies attended the opening ceremony of the exhibition titled “Manga Hokusai Manga: Approaching the Master’s Compendium from the Perspective of Contemporary Comics”, which is scheduled to last from May 12 – 26, 2017, at the Exhibition Hall located at 92 Le Thanh Ton Street, District 1, HCM City (Museum of Ho Chi Minh City). The event was jointly organized by the Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange and the Consulate General of Japan in HCM City.

On 26-28 March, 2017, the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies, HCM City University of Social Sciences and Humanities, attended the opening ceremony to launch a project on “strengthening climate change REsearch And innovation CapaciTies in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam – REACT” at the University of Alicante, Spain. During the meeting, the project’s members had discussions and reached agreements on the project-related issues.
