The University of Adelaide is offering Faculty of Sciences Student Accelerator Scholarships for the students who are seeking entry into one of the eligible programs in Semester 1 or 2 of 2018. Scholarships are available to pursue undergraduate as well as the postgraduate program.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc is paying his visit to Bangkok with the hope of developing trade and “tempting” Thailand to stand on Hanoi’s side in the dispute over the East Sea. Experts remark that Vietnam’s strategy will be very unlikely to succeed given that Thailand’s military authority has become increasingly reliant on Beijing in terms of economics.

On the morning of July 10, 2017, the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies hosted a scientific seminar on “Luxury and Rubble: Civility and Dispossession in the New Saigon” at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities – Vietnam National University HCM City. The event’s attendees included lecturers and students of Faculty of Urban Studies, Sociology, History, English Linguistics and Literature, Anthropology, Cultural Studies and Center for International Studies. It also attracted the participation of some guests from the Polish Academy of Sciences, HCM City Institute for Development Studies, Southern Institute of Social Sciences, and National Academy of Public Administration.

On the morning of June 29, 2017, the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies (CVSEAS) attended a workshop on training human resources in the hospitality industry in Ho Chi Minh City with the theme “Omotenashi – the spirit of meeting customer demands”, which was jointly organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism and Forval Vietnam Co., Ltd. Some distinguished guests at the event were Mr. Kawaue Junichi – Consul General of Japan in HCM City, Mr. Hida Harumitsu – Former Consul General of Japan in HCM City – Chairman of Forval Vietnam Co., Ltd., Mrs. Ito Kinuko – human resources expert of J-Presence Academy, and Mr. Bui Ta Hoang Vu – Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism.

On April 15, 2017, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam attended a national conference on “Economic Landscape for Businesses in 2017” held by the University of Economics and Law at the Unification Hall. The conference’s attendees included Dr. Nguyen Thanh Phong – Member of the Party Central Committee – Chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee, Assoc.Prof Huynh Thanh Dat – Member of the Party Central Committee – President of the Vietnam National University HCM City, Assoc.Prof. Phan Thanh Binh – Member of the Party Central Committee – Chairman of the National Assembly Committee on Culture, Education, Youth, Adolescents and Children, Assoc.Prof. Vu Minh Khuong – Economic Expert – National University of Singapore, Dr. Vo Tri Thanh – Former Deputy Director of the Central Institute for Economic Management, Mr. Tran Ba Duong – Chairman of the Board of Directors of Truong Hai Auto Corporation (THACO), Mrs. Vu Thi Thuan – Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Traphaco Joint Stock Company, and Mr. Mai Huu Tin – Former Chairman of Vietnam Young Entrepreneurs Association Session IV – Chairman of the Board of Directors cum CEO of U&I Investment Corporation.

On June 09, 2017, after his introduction of the Sumitomo Foundation at the HCM City University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Mr. Koichi Ishizuka paid a visit to the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies (CVSEAS). Before that, he had had a series of talks at Hanoi University of Languages and International Studies, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Hue University, Can Tho University, etc., hoping that there would be more applications from Vietnam, which will contribute to promoting exchanges in scientific research between the two countries.
