In the context of economic crisis taking place all over the world, the talk on “Global Crisis and Energy Politics” was considered an interesting topic which drew attention and participation of about 100 students from Faculty of International Relations (FIR), University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH), Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City.

On 19 December 2008, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam hosted aforum on ‘What way we should do… ?’ which discussed urgent solutions to attract tourist coming to Vietnam.

In order to create the long-term and wide-open connectivity among economic scholars and policy makers for the common goals of contributing to the economic development of the country, CVSEAS has organized the scientific seminar titled “Management, economic policy and growth”.

From March 10, 2009 to March 27, 2009, CVSEAS in cooperation with Foreign Languages University (Tokyo National University, Japan) carried out a research survey on culture and field knowledge of the ethnic communities in two districts Kon Plong and Kon Rẫy – Kontum province. The group of research on culture and field knowledge led by Dr. Thành Phần (Vice-director of CVSEAS) did a survey in the areas of Kon Tuc hamlet (Đắc Pne village, Kon Rẫy district), Vichirin hamlet (Hiếu village, Kon Plong district) and Kon K’Tau hamlet (Pơ Ê village, Kon Plong district).

On the morning of April 6, 2009, Japan Lawyers Association for Freedom (JLAF) paid a visit to CVSEAS. Meeting the delegation are Ass. Prof. Dr. Võ Văn Sen (Rector of University of Social Sciences and Humanities - VNH-HCMC) and Dr. Trần Đình Lâm (Director of CVSEAS).

On April 10, 2009, Dr. Trần Đình Lâm (Director of CVSEAS) met with Consul General of Laos in Hồ Chí Minh City on the occasion of Bun Pimai, the traditional New Year of the Laotians.

On June 15 and 16, 2009, Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies attended the international conference "Relationship between India and Southeast Asia – a strategic commitment or regional integration” which was co-organized by USSH-HCMC and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies (MAKAIAS, Kolkata, India).

On May 4, 2009, Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies met and worked with Mr Mitsuaki Iijima, representative of Vietnam Human Link (Japan).

CVSEAS met with Prof. Dr. Trương Quang (Maastricht School of Management, Netherlands) when he gave an interesting talk on the topic "Global integration, competitiveness and human resources in Vietnam" to many lecturers, researchers and students of Universities of Social Sciences and Humanities on the morning of May 21, 2009.

On May 15, 2009, CVSEAS participated in a talk with Mr. Võ Tá Hân at Sai gon Economic Times. At the talk, Mr. Võ Tá Hân expressed a lot of ideas making valuable contribution to Vietnamese small and medium enterprises.
